De-escalation (EMPLOYEES ONLY) Training will provide 2 PCB Approved Education Hours Presenter: Barbara Orr, MS Date: Tuesday, August 13th Time: 1:00PM - 3:00PM Location:  Livengrin Main Campus Shanahan Hall 4833 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, PA 19020 Contact: Marisa Roeder mroeder@livengrin.org Details: In this workshop, we will explore the opportunity and obligation we have to create an atmosphere in our working environment that pro-actively reduces the likelihood of escalating situations, as well as specific skills to use in our interactions with clients to both prevent escalations from happening, and de-escalate effectively when necessary. We’ll review specific characteristics in the emotional and physical atmosphere that lend themselves to a calming environment, talk about pro-active approaches and the avoidance of power struggles, and examine antecedents to escalating situations that we can become more astute in recognizing. We’ll then walk through specific elements of de-escalation: things to notice, things to do and say and not do and say, and ways we can arrange the immediate environment to allow for more a more effective tamping down of a troubled or crisis situation. Finally, we’ll focus on alternatives to restraint to keep in the forefront of our minds to avoid as much as possible any need for hands-on [...]
